The Regina Ringette Association (RRA) is proud to start a new Children's Ringette program for new ringette players and children under the age of 10.
First introduced by Ringette Canada in 2018, Children’s Ringette is focused on creating opportunities for:
age & stage appropriate activities
emphasis on fun and play
grouping children based on skill & readiness
maximum participation & engagement
opportunities to practice learned skills
Jolene Sentes, RRA Children's Ringette Coordinator, planned the implementation of the new program for the 2020-2021 season. With so many uncertainties to navigate with COVID-19, implementing this program this year was a tremendous achievement, and it seems to be paying off. The program is almost sold out, and additional spots are being considered for the winter season!
There are two divisions, FUNdamentals 1 & FUNdamentals 2:
FUNdamentals 1 will play cross-ice games in a 3-on-3 format
FUNdamentals 2 will play half-ice in a 4-on-4 format
Both divisions will use mini-nets and play adapted games on smaller areas of play
Small area games ensure more touches, interactions, shots on net and passes.
Divisions will be split into smaller squads (teams) to ensure the majority of players are participating at a time.
There will be two season’s during the Ringette year:
Mid-late September to December (starting September 2020)
January to March
Each season will have a separate registration. Players will register for the Children’s Ringette program and at the start of each season, there will be a skills evaluation to place the participants into their stage appropriate division. Children's Ringette replaces the previous Learn-to-Play program and U8 division.
